Fire OS vs Vega OS
| Model | System | TiviMate? |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | Fire OS | Yes — sideload normally |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus | Fire OS | Yes — sideload normally |
| Older sticks (Lite, HD, earlier 4K) | Fire OS | Yes — sideload normally |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select | Vega OS | No — no sideloading |
| Newer 2026 Fire TV sticks | Vega OS | No — no sideloading |
Identify your stick in 30 seconds
- Open Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, and read the model name.
- Cross-check: search the Appstore for Downloader. If it is absent entirely, the stick is almost certainly on Vega.
- Do not hunt for a Developer Options menu on Vega — it does not exist there.
If sideloading is blocked
First re-check the model: most blocked installs are Vega sticks, not settings mistakes. On Vega there is no workaround, because the system cannot run Android packages at all — say so plainly and move on.
On Fire OS, blocked installs are settings or storage problems: confirm Install unknown apps for Downloader and free device storage.
What to buy instead
For TiviMate duty, choose a Fire OS stick such as the 4K Max, or any Google TV device. Decide on remote preference and 4K needs first; any compatible stick then follows the same Install TiviMate on Firestick steps.
